WORCESTER WARRIORS AASE PROGRAMME

The Worcester Warriors AASE Programme is a rugby model for talented 16 to 18 year olds based at The Stourport High School & VIth Form College. The programme provides players with the best opportunity to succeed in the next step of their life, be it professional rugby, university, an apprenticeship or full-time employment.

The players are selected by various pathways and we make a two year commitment to support and develop each player through education and rugby.  All students will combine elite rugby development with level 3 courses within our sixth form whilst receiving the highest level of pastoral care. The Stourport High School & VIth Form College’s ambition is to embed rugby throughout the school and to aspire to have the best state school rugby programme nationally. We are wholeheartedly committed to engaging with the positive ethos and culture associated with the game of rugby including the RFU core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. There are 15 AASE programmes across the country run predominantly by Premiership clubs that form the highly competitive AASE league and provides a real challenge to any promising talent. Worcester Warriors staff provide elite coaching, strength and conditioning, nutritional advice, and physiotherapy. Technical and tactical training sessions include:

  • Position specific training sessions
  • Video analysis
  • Strength and conditioning training at Worcester Sixways
  • Rehabilitation and recovery work

The AASE programme has witnessed many success stories over the past few years, with many graduates going into the full-time professional academy and then the first team. The majority of players who do not sign professional contracts go on to higher education, many of which attend top universities. The Stourport VIth Form College provides students with an opportunity to take either A Levels or BTECs in a variety of courses and outstanding pastoral support is provided throughout involving experienced staff from the school and Worcester Warriors. Players are selected through a variety of ways, including scouting, trials, nomination and application. Acceptance is based on the candidate displaying the potential to play at an elite level; academic pathways are agreed following an interview process at The Stourport VIth Form College.
