MILESTONE AS FRAMEWORK ARRIVES (posted 27/1/17)
After months of groundwork preparation and utilities being connected, we have seen the arrival and installation of the new steel frames. Standing 9.5metres high, we can already begin to see the new two storey college building taking shape. In the next few weeks we will be able to see the steel flooring being laid, the roof being fitted and external brickwork going up.
Pictured below we have current Year 12 and 13 students with Mr Pearson, Director of Learning – Year 12 along with Stepnell’s Site Manager Carlo Carenzo during today’s photoshoot as more steel frames were delivered.

DYLAN & DANIEL DOMINATE DEBATE: (posted: 06/01/17)
On Friday 9 December 2016 Dylan Moreton and Daniel Griffiths from Year 12 represented the SHS VIth Form in the Wyre Forest Debating Competition held in the council chamber at Wyre Forest House, Kidderminster. They defeated Wolverley CE Secondary School and King Charles 1 School in the rounds, arguing that the state should fund all types of education, not just that which seems to have the ‘most economic worth’. This took them into a final against The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, where they successfully argued that schools and universities should not teach skills alone and that a balance of skill and knowledge was essential in life and many careers.
SHS are the new District Champions and making preparations for the National Finals in 2017. Our students were praised by chief judge Mark Garnier, MP, for their quick-witted responses and teamwork, describing some of their points as “brilliant”. Congratulations to Dylan and Daniel!
RAVENHURST CHRISTMAS PARTY: (posted: 06/01/17)
On Wednesday 7 December 2016 a group of Post 16 students visited Ravenhurst Residential Care Home for a Christmas party. They spent time chatting with the residents, organised games of bingo and a picture quiz, awarding prizes to the lucky winners. Residents were entertained by the school’s SHS Ukes and other music students who performed a selection of Christmas songs. The audience was invited to join in and did so with enthusiasm. The party is an annual event which offers both generations the opportunity to meet and learn a little about each other, reinforcing the school’s ethos of engaging with the local community. A good time was had by all!

ENTREPRENEURS OF THE FUTURE: (posted: 11/11/16)
On Thursday 10 November 2016 one of our Year 12 Young Enterprise (YE) groups ‘Branch Out’ organised a cake sale to raise money to fund their business venture by selling a variety of baked goods to raise a very creditable £135.
The businesses will be making wooden products including cheese boards, coasters, log candle holders, Christmas decorations and artists’ palettes which will be on sale next month. Further details will be provided here. We wish both Young Enterprise groups the best of luck with their ideas.
UCAS APPLICATIONS: (posted: 11/11/16)
Year 13 university applicants have been busily completing their personal statements and making their degree course choices. This is a very important stage in their education, representing the culmination of all their hard work at SHS which will lead them on to the next exciting chapter of their lives. The staff of the VIth Form team are providing help and guidance which will ensure that all applications are sent off before we break up for Christmas on 16 December.

After successfully winning a bid for funding of £3.5million from the Education Funding Agency, we are proud to announce that we will have a brand new, state-of-the-art VIth Form College building for September 2017. The contract was awarded to Stepnell’s as main contractor and construction started on 1 November 2016. It is planned to take approximately 35 weeks and will be ready for the new intake of VIth Form students in September 2017.
See below the artist’s impressions of how the new building will look once it is finished. Keep up to date with the building progress on this page as the building comes to life.
